Pretty Cool 3D PC Setup

Filed under: Uncategorized — cipher @ 4:13 pm

Ran by Fry’s the other day and they had their NVidia 3D PC gaming setup working. Nobody was playing with it so I stepped up and put on the glasses and drove a fastback Mustang on Paradise: Burnout for about 5 minutes. I usually find driving games to be pretty tedious on the PC, but the addition of working 3D to the game was a transformative experience. If this ever goes mainstream, it is a real game-changer. Literally. Not only does it make driving much more natural, but I’d imagine that a shooter using this technology would be super-immersive.

The downside right now is the cost. The glasses system is $200, plus you have to have a monitor that’s working at 120hz and a videocard that’s up to snuff, so we’re talking an upgrade for me in the several hundreds of dollars. In other words, um, no. But if they can get this technology down in price (and can keep it going until 120hz monitors are more mainstream), they could make a mint on it.

Hottest TV Mom?

Filed under: Uncategorized — cipher @ 3:24 pm

In his Sports Guy column this week, Bill Simmons off-handedly remarks that Meredith Baxter’s Elyse Keaton was the hottest TV mom in history. To that I say:

o-rly-owl

I suspect that Elyse Keaton wouldn’t even make my top 10, let alone lock down the top spot. So, let’s open this one up for debate: what’s your top 10 list of TV MILF’s? And here are some arbitrary rules:

  • Nominees must have been a mom character (adopted or biological are both ok);
  • Motherhood status must be confirmed on the show itself (”Loni Anderson may have had kids we never saw on WKRP” = fail);
  • Motherhood need not be the central focus of the character’s role on show, but it helps;
  • Nominee must be in a regular or frequently-recurring role (not a one- or two-off guest spot);
  • Nominee must be seen in multiple seasons of a television series (not mini-series, not TV Movie of the Week), although series need not be restricted to broadcast channels (so Stevo, your obsession with Weeds’ mom character may continue).

This Would Make a Nice Pair of Boots. Or a Dozen.

From an email forwarded to me this morning comes these photos of a 1,000 lb gator that was shot in the wild in Houma, La., home of our friends the Shrimp Boots Racing Team. Apparently it was shot while crossing a kids’ soccer field. And it was with a female that was even larger but that got away. Estimated length is about 13′8″ from snout to tail. Oy. If Mike Vick had a truly entrepenurial streak, he’d figure out how to face these beasts off against the rogue Burmese Pythons in the Everglades in fights for monies.

The End is Here

Former MILF (?) Meredith Baxter has come out of the closet as a lesbian. She has been married to men (if you can classify effeminate penis-wearers like David Birney as “men”) three different times and has 5 kids. So at one point, it appears that she enjoyed the sausage diet. You’ll never watch “Family Ties” the same again. Enjoy.
