“Don’t Talk to the Police”

Filed under: Uncategorized — cipher @ 9:15 am

I’ve always said (well, ever since my year doing criminal defense work) that if you are Mirandized, the first and only seven words that should escape your lips once the police officer stops talking are “I want to speak to my lawyer.” Here’s why:

Big Gov’t

Filed under: Uncategorized — cipher @ 12:07 pm

Tobacco taxes go through the roof on Wednesday. President Obama has apparently embraced the nationalization of the US auto industry by eliminating the “Hope” and prioritizing the “Audacity.” His budget is going to come in somewhere between 2 and 3 TRILLION dollars in the red, which will not only be a record, but puts the US in league with banana republics. The best defense to any attack thereupon is not a rational explanation of the benefits that will result therefrom but rather something with the ring of “you guys did it too.”

If history teaches us anything, shouldn’t it be that the bigger government gets the less it should be trusted? Apparently not.

Nanny state, go forth!

Am I frustrated? Slightly.

Administration Seeks Increase in Oversight of Executive Pay

Officials said the proposal would seek a broad new role for the Federal Reserve to oversee large companies, including major hedge funds, whose problems could pose risks to the entire financial system…. The new rules will cover all financial institutions, including those not now covered by any pay rules because they are not receiving federal bailout money. Officials say the rules could also be applied more broadly to publicly traded companies, which already report about some executive pay practices to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Because this is exactly what the framers meant when they said “provide for the common defense”.

Part 1 of 3:

Clinton’s “Reset” Button

Filed under: Politics — Stevo @ 8:14 am

So the State Department just screwed up this translation of one word on a very important gift that the Secretary herself was giving the Russian FM. Not only that, but the wrong word we used means “overcharge” or “overload”. So the explanation here is one of three:

1) Clinton’s State Dept. is incompetent
2) Clinton’s State Dept. is intensely disloyal
3) Clinton wants to send a message

I’d guess that the professionals at State just looooove Clinton compared to the prior administration, and the likelihood of incompetence at this high-profile level? Not very likely in my opinion.

DIY Gaming Seat

drawing-gamechair-welder

Just found these directions from Toolmonger on how to build your own gaming seat for driving games, etc. These guys use a Hobart MIG welder to put the whole thing together, but with just a few modifications it could easily be bolted together instead of welded. Sure, it wouldn’t be quite as durable, but then again, I don’t have a MIG welder. Yet. But I do have a drill and a sawz-all. If I build this from aluminum square tube instead of steel it would be pretty lightweight too. And a bolt-up version would be easier for disassembly and storage.

I do, however, have an extra automobile seat from the MR2 and the wheel/pedals for the Xbox. So after taking care of Ms. Cipher’s honey-do list, this may creep up the to-do list. I’ll rig mine up with wheels so that I can push it into and out from the living room with ease.
