John Yoo: Monster?

Filed under: Politics, The Endorsement — cipher @ 8:43 pm

This month’s issue of Esquire has a very interesting article on John Yoo. Although he’s now a law professor at Cal-Berkeley, a few years back he wrote what came to be known as the “torture memo.” As you might imagine of Esquire, the author comes at the article from a left-of-center perspective; nevertheless, it’s a fascinating read. Enjoy.

Kiss of Death

Filed under: Uncategorized — Rawdawg @ 11:25 pm

A 1995 movie with a substantial cast. Is it good? Is it bad? I don’t know, I am too drunk to tell tonight - but it does have Caruso acting like a tough guy, borderline CSI Miami, so it’s enjoyable in a certain sense.
Thoughts please.

Vader initiates “Great Jedi Purge”, gets suspended sentence.

I can’t tell you  how happy it made me to find this story.

‘Darth Vader’ spared jail in Jedi church attacks

“Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, attacked Jedi church founder Barney Jones — aka Master Jonba Hehol — with a metal crutch, hitting him on the head, prosecutors told Holyhead Magistrates’ Court.  He also whacked Jones’ 18-year-old cousin, Michael Jones — known as Master Mormi Hehol — bruising his thigh in the March 25 incident, prosecutors said.

I suppose if I were named Barney Jones I’d try to change my name to Master Jonba Hehol as well.  Maybe not.

Endorsed: Pomegranate Liqueur

Filed under: The Endorsement — cipher @ 3:19 pm

Pama pomegranate liqueur receives an endorsement. I picked up some last week and tried it out. The wife liked it in her cranberry-and-vodka, and it makes a great addition to the ultimate margarita (omit the brandy and add about 2-3x as much Pama as you would the brandy, keeping everything else the same). It has an interesting flavor, a tad sweet, but not cloying like many fruity liqeurs. Highly recommended. It can be found in both a 375mL and 750mL bottle.

Your Liberal Arts Degree Might Have Just Gotten More Valuable

Filed under: Uncategorized — cipher @ 9:30 am

Or at least Forbes magazine thinks so. So if there is anybody around here who went to a small liberal arts college that is now ranked in the top-10 in the country, rejoice! Then go ask your boss for a raise, since your value to your organization just increased markedly.

Maker Faire

What is it? Crazy people making crazy stuff. If you’ve ever seen Make magazine, then you understand. I really wanted to go this year, but then one of the kids got sick and spoiled the travel planning. But maybe next year. This article has a review. Sounds sufficiently Cryptonomicon-ic for the assembled horde that is the Ming.
